Eurovision singer to star at Louth Lithuanian community’s Summer Festival

What's On

Donny Montell who tops the bill at the Louth Lithuanian community’s Summer Festival on June 24th.

The third Midsummer festival to be organised by the Lithuanian community in Louth takes place on the 24th of June 2017 at Dundalk Racecourse.

The plan is to gather as many Lithuanians, Latvians and Irish people as possible together to celebrate the feast of St. Jonine’s (St. John) which is of special importance in Lithuanian culture.

It is also part of the attempt to keep Lithuanian traditions alive, organize events where the younger generation of Lithuanians, many of whom were born here in Ireland, could have an opportunity to get acquainted with their parents’ traditions.

These traditions include singing and dancing until the sun sets, telling tales, searching to find the magic fern blossom at midnight, jumping over bonfires, greeting the rising midsummer sun and washing the face with a morning dew, young girls float flower wreaths on the water of river or lake.

There will be a hand craft and food fair, followed by a concert of national songs and dance and then a concert with special gust Donatas Montvydas, better known by his stage name of Donny Montell, who is a Lithuanian singer-songwriter who represented Lithuania at the Eurovision Song Contest in Azerbaijan in 2012, and again last year in Sweden when he came 9th.

The Fair runs from 11am till 5pm and the concert starts at 8.00 pm
